Founded in 2024 by Richard A. Parker in Burlington, North Carolina, Tall House Books reflects Richard’s rich life experiences. Born in 1950, he grew up in the Piedmont, navigating the carefree 1950s and the turbulent 1960s. Facing the draft in 1969, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in anti-submarine warfare and stationed in Iceland, where he experienced natural wonders and pivotal cultural moments.
After military service, Richard joined his family's real estate business, running it for 45 years until selling it in 2020. He then pivoted to writing, completing his autobiography during the pandemic and launching into fiction with “A Midnight Posse.”
This website showcases his completed works, featuring book covers, synopses, pricing, and ordering information. Special thanks to his daughter, M.G. Bradshaw, for her invaluable technical support.
In 2014, he built a new home in the downtown district that rises high above the sidewalk. A passing kid once said to him, "That's a tall house, mister."

In this engaging autobiography, the author reflects on his life journey, completed in 2024 after 16 years of determination. With early photos rescued from the brink of disposal, he recounts an ordinary childhood in the 1960s, where he embraced trends and was a fan of the Beatles, enjoying surfing until high school ended.
When the Vietnam War draft loomed with a number six, he joined the Navy, where he met his future wife. After four years of service, they married and welcomed a child, leading him to a 45-year career in the family business. Though he began writing this book in the mid-2000s, it was only after retiring in 2021 that he fully committed to his storytelling.
